The Practice of Hortus: Cutting Garden Course, September
September is a magical time of year in the cutting garden both visually and physically - wonderful blooms. berries and seedheads coupled with low light and crisper temperatures make for a real sense of the Hortus year turning again and we will follow its path together. It’s a crucial time in the Hortus cutting garden too as we continue preparation for next year, sowing the cooler loving seeds, propagating favourite shrubs and roses and dividing hard working perennials.
We will also explore together over wintering plants and how to look out for signs of damping off and other aspects that might disrupt the flow of stems and important steps that can be taken to improve soil health over autumn and winter.
September is also a wonderful time to collect seed and we will show you how we do so, when seed is ripe, when it should be sown and how it should be stored before sowing.
The day includes a Hortus home cooked lunch, Hortus course materials and a selection of cuttings and divided plants to take home.
